Spring Reawakening

Hello, here we are on the brink of Spring (and mud season)!

The sun is brighter and warmer, the days longer and the air more fragrant. Although time has passed - and so much has changed in my physical body and our environment - I am doing my best to stay in alignment with the mindset of awe and connection that I wrote from last month. I’m happy to say, I feel like I have stepped out onto the “other side” of these early postpartum months. I have slowly returned to work, reconnecting with some of you and it feels SO good. Having time for my own identity and work that fills me makes me a better mother, wife and person overall. I am so grateful to be back doing the work I love!

How about you? Are you noticing any changes in yourself, your environment or your outlook? Have you been connecting more to awe or your community in ways that feel grounding?

These concepts and teachings of noticing - or what is called mindfulness: being present in the moment, observing without judgement and feeling connected - are things I am closely acquainted with and even still, I am consistently surprised by how helpful these practices are when I experience their power first hand. My first thought is so often “How can something that seems so small and simple feel so profound and healing?”

I encourage you to join me in this practice and curiosity, and if you want to dive even deeper, check out these podcasts:

In the coming month or two we will be sending out a survey about what would feel most useful to you from me. How I use my time and energy matters and I want my work to be of service to you all! So, think on what you need - is it more classes or workshops in person? Weekly short videos? Are you satisfied with how things are? Or wishing for change? We’ll keep it short, but be on the lookout.

Always growing,

This month's feature:

No matter where you are postpartum your body has encountered change. Movement during this time can be mistaken as only a full workout is worthy. Join to discover how untrue that is! In small doses you’ll improve posture, mobilize and regain strength.

The teacher becomes the student...

In the 4 months I took off from work, I was a student to my past self. I worked through this course and it really did help me bring mindfulness back into my postpartum body and movement practice.

But the deepest truth is that it has taken me over 15 weeks to do this 8 week course - I started in mid-December and am just finishing up!

This served as an incredible reminder that I am human - we are all human - and just how bumpy the road to recovery can be. Many days finding the capacity for one lesson was a stretch, while other days I could do 2 videos, and then some days just melted away entirely.

However long it took to complete, although my body has been forever changed, this course has helped me return to myself in a gentle and empowering way. I hope it helps you, or someone you know, too!

Not a pregnant person or living in a previously pregnant body? Please consider sharing this with someone who is - we all know them! Let's shower them with love!

And stay tuned for next month, we’ll continue to reflect on mindfulness and how its practices talk to the brain and body.

DRA stands for Diastasis Rectus Abdominis which means separation, or widening of, the rectus abdominis (RA). This happens in nearly 100% of pregnant people and about 60% of the cases resolve on their own within 6 months of delivery.

DRA is not specific to pregnancy and can also occur in non-pregnant people, even young babies and toddlers too.
