Start to a Sustainable Summer ✨🌿🌼
Published 3 days ago • 2 min read
Hi Reader,
The season and world around us has shifted to summer! The weeds and grass are growing at full steam, the flowers continue their show, weekend and evening plans are filling up, and the mornings come early and daylight seems to last forever.
Depending on what season of life you’re in, summer can mean many things - juggling summer camps, days of activities, lounging outside or long days of work stuck inside... Regardless of the current chapter in your personal journey, summer is full.
In Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, summer is abundant with pitta energy - represented by the elements fire and water. In the energy's light side there is growth and transformation, excitement and heat, passion and joy. And sometimes in the energy's shadow side there is an excess of heat and humidity, growth that seems out of control, and overwhelm or anger can bubble over.
To find ease between the light and shadow sides of this full season, some Ayurvedic principles can bring clarity - for instance, “like increases like” or “opposites balance.”
Being in a pitta season of life (mid 20’s to mid 50’s) with this season's abundance, “like increases like” may mean feeling extra spicy in the summer or feeling excited while also exhausted. Leaning into kapha energy - represented by earth and water - will offer support using the principle "opposites balance". Think about gardening, lounging in a hammock or on a blanket with the green all around, and spending time near a calm lake or a babbling brook. Learn more about finding balance this season here.
If you're looking for even more support to feel a bit more recovered this summer season, I’ll be leading a class series called Roll & Recover on Wednesdays at noon from July 22nd to August 26th in my studio.
Class size will be limited to 4, but I will have a waitlist and if interest grows I will look into expanding to another space.
The class will be catered to the needs of the group, but we will balance the fire, heat and excitement of summer with release work and mobility as well as yoga nidra to restore and promote recovery.
The investment is $180 - the series is 6 classes and each class will be 50 minutes. You will get a recording of the rest practice we finish class with, even if you miss a week!
Not convinced yet? Here are a couple testimonials from previous class participants:
Look for a few more resources below! Here’s to a sustainable start to summer,
For a more energetic summer practice...
Check out Good Energy Qigong. Maryellen and her team of instructors offer a variety of classes, workshops and 1:1 offerings to restore your energy flow. She has a practice called Threads of Light that is subtle, yet profound.
Lastly, I mentioned in the last newsletter that I’m doing some behind the scenes work on my business. As I begin to offer more class series and workshops again, it would be helpful if you could take 1 minute to update your preferences. Look below in the blue box and you'll see "Preferences" to the right of "Uncubscribe" and in just a couple clicks of your interests, you'll be done! This will ensure you only get the updates you want and will help me keep things organized on the back end!
Thanks for making it to the end, it means so much for you to be here.
